DALLAS, TX -- MARCH 4, 1994 -- StepUp Software today announced QuickAgent(tm), a scriptable e-mail application supporting CE Software's QuickMail products. QuickAgent provides QuickMail send and receive capabilities to any Apple event-savvy application. With fully-documented and easy-to-use Apple events, users can send and retrieve QuickMail messages with products like FileMaker Pro, FoxPro for Macintosh, Frontier, HyperCard and SuperCard. Multiple recipients and file enclosures are supported. QuickAgent will include example FileMaker Pro templates.
Through simple scripting, QuickAgent can alert applications when mail has arrived, send different events based on the the content of the incoming mail, and send a standard reply based on the content of the incoming mail. Replies can be included in the script, stored in a text file, or sent as a file enclosure.
Possible uses (sparks of the imagination):
• Computer help desks store e-mail automatically, enter a solution or response to the client and send the response, all from within the database system.
• Databases use e-mail as a management feature. When certain criteria is met, for example a purchase order worth over $1,000,000, management can receive a high priority e-mail announcing the event.
• Document retrieval can be automated. Users send a QuickMail request with a document named in the e-mail subject field. QuickAgent can immediately send the appropriate document as a file enclosure.
QuickAgent is only 250K on disk and uses 300K of RAM. System 7 and a QuickMail account are required. A single-user license is $99. Site licenses are available. Registered users of QuickAE (QuickAgent's shareware predecessor) will receive free upgrades. Registered users of any other StepUp Software product will receive a 50% discount through the end of 1994. QuickAgent will begin shipping March 14. Functional demos will be available on online services including ZMac, CompuServe, America Online, and AppleLink.
